I am very partial to rusty old things

When it comes to Christmas decorations, my favourites are always the ones that have been in my family since I can first remember decorating a Christmas tree – or new ones that look suitably timeworn and loved.

This year, these stars and wreaths from Reginald Ballum caught my eye. Amish stars and wicker wreaths always look so… well, so friendly. They are the opposite of the garish glitz and tinsel that I do my best to avoid. And they would make great gifts.

Reginald Ballum is the place to go if you are looking for vintage, decorative and industrial antiques. In other words – anything that has lived and been loved.

The owner, Darren Peskett, is a genius when it comes to unearthing the unusual, the unique and the downright gorgeous.

A visit to his West Worthing store, in Sussex, is risky. You are unlikely to leave empty handed.

A visit to the Reginald Ballum website is riskier still. Furniture, seating, industrial lighting, mirrors made from French châteaux doors and bespoke pieces like upholstered stools that started life as milk churns… It’s all there.

It has been called “the best kept interiors secret in West Sussex”.

It probably won’t stay secret for much longer!
